Arkansas Society Awarded Genealogist General’s Award

Greensboro, NC – The Arkansas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution was one of 14 states who was awarded the Genealogist General’s Award for obtaining one of the lowest percentages of pended applications for 2025 at the 136th SAR Congress held in Greensboro, NC on July 4, 2026. Each Society must submit at least 25 applications to National in order to be considered for this award.
“I am thrilled the State Society was able to achieve this award and recognition! As the State Registrar, I want to ensure every application sent to National is ready to be reviewed and approved the first time it is touched by a National genealogist. Pended applications create more work for all concerned, and I want to ensure each application is ready to go to National,” said State Registrar James Morrison.
One of the ways State Registrar Morrison ensures accuracy is he reviews all applications and associated supporting documentation prior to any signatures by SAR members or applicants to ensure compliance. If there are issues, Morrison provides guidance back to the Chapter Registrars to achieve alignment.
“I work to ensure the application is 99.9% ready to go to National before checks are written and the application is signed,” Morrison said. “This ensures we have success the first time it is reviewed by National.”
A pended application is any application where additional documentation is needed or missing. If an application is pended, the applicant has up to two years to resolve the problem, withdraw the application, or else National will remove the application from its queue.
