State President's Welcome Message

Welcome to the Arkansas Society Sons of the American Revolution (ARSSAR)! We have made this webpage informative and easy to navigate for you to find answers to your questions as well as providing links to our ten chapters.

The National Society Sons of the American Revolution was established on April 30, 1889. Less than one year later the Arkansas Society was organized February 11, 1890 at a meeting in the Supreme Court Room in Little Rock.

The Sons of the American Revolution is a Congressionally chartered, nonprofit, non-partisan, and non-political organization. Its purposes are strictly historical, educational and patriotic. The SAR is dedicated to the perpetuation of patriotism and the institutes of American freedom and liberty through both the remembrance of our revolutionary ancestors and creating change within society that will further our American principles.

The SAR consists of 50 state-level societies with over 590 local chapters, and several international societies including Canada, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom and totals more than 37,000 members. SAR members are direct male descendants of Revolutionary War patriots who either served in military or naval forces or contributed patriotic service to establishing the independence of the United States.

ARSSAR members are encouraged to participate in the local chapter's activities, such as community service and educational programs. College ROTC and high school Jr ROTC ceremonies, Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day activities, high school history class presentations for Constitution Day, Flag Day, and Bill of Rights Day (especially in period dress) and numerous other events all represent an opportunity to promote patriotism and a profound reverence for the principles of government founded by our forefathers.

We invite you to join us!

Libertas et Patria,

Dr. Darrell R. Over MD
